Wireless Control Systems
The rich feature set of Wireless Technologies' automation products allows many control system configurations to be implemented. These may be the simplest standalone control systems, where no other equipment is required, or more complex configurations over larger sites, where multiple units are distributed wirelessly over a large distance, each performing a programmed task. When part of a complex system, Wireless Technologies' products can become smart field devices – communicating back to a third party controller.
Standalone Control Systems
Wireless Technologies' products allow automation of simple processes using a single device. Secure remote monitoring and control is possible. Faults and urgent messaging direct to key personnel or security teams can be achieved from the same unit. Swap out and system changes can be performed with minimal down time.
In this example, the WTE-PLC is directly connected to an escalator. The PLC is programmed to control all aspects of operation and safety. The WTE-PLC is network connected allowing secure monitoring and control. A security and service team is notified directly via DMR radio or legacy pagers should a fault or emergency situation arise. |
Distributed Control Systems
Simple scaling of automated systems is possible, with overall monitoring and control at a single location. Subsystems can remain autonomous. Local or system wide messaging for key personnel is possible to respond to emergencies or faults. Secure off-site monitoring and control is possible if required. Simple systems can optionally operate without separate SCADA systems. Systems are simple and low cost to implement.
In the system example shown below, each escalator operates independent programs. Each escalator is separated by significant distance, such as in a large mall. A central supervisor unit allows monitoring by building service staff. All units are controlled through a single location. Staff can be messaged directly using DMR radios or legacy pagers should fault conditions arise. Secure remote connections for control or monitoring via the internet is possible through the central supervisor unit.

SCADA Control Systems
The Wireless Technologies TReX-460 is suitable for commercial, industrial and remotely managed SCADA control/monitoring applications using Modbus RTU/TCP or MQTT protocols. SCADA applications connect to a single TReX unit. When additional remote TReX devices are present in the system, control and monitoring is possible through the same single unit.
As a simple working example shown below, web content is being served to a PC and mobile devices using the open source application “RapidSCADA”.
